Ingredients

  • For the Roll-Ups:
  • 10 slices white sandwich bread
  • 3 tablespoons butter melted
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • For the French Toast Coating:
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For Cooking:
  • 2-3 tablespoons butter for frying

Instructions

  • Step 1:
  • Begin by removing the crusts from each slice of bread. This will make it easier to roll them up without tearing. Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice of bread until they are about ¼ inch thick. This step is crucial as it allows the bread to roll more easily and absorb the flavors better.
  • Step 2:
  • In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon. Mix well until you have a smooth paste. This mixture is what will give the roll-ups their delicious cinnamon roll flavor.
  • Step 3:
  • Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over each slice of flattened bread, leaving a small border around the edges. This prevents the filling from leaking out during the rolling and cooking process.
  • Step 4:
  • Carefully roll up each slice of bread tightly, starting from one end and rolling toward the other. Make sure to seal the edges by applying gentle pressure. This will help keep the filling inside while cooking.
  • Step 5:
  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, and vanilla extract until well combined. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 2-3 tablespoons of butter. Dip each roll in the egg mixture, ensuring they are coated but not overly soaked. Place the seam-side down in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, rotating to brown all sides evenly. Remove from the skillet and serve warm.
